Introduction: Every TVB star must go through one stage, no matter if they will become famous or not later on. The stage they must go through is what we called the "Walk-On scenes", in Chinese, it's called Kei Lei Fei , I call it "Run the Dragon's Wrap" (translating the Chinese meaning). So, what is "Run the Dragon's Wrap"? That refers to a no-name character, these characters can wear many different sets of cloth in one series, playing many different characters in a big crowd. A TVB star, before he/she gets notice, he/she must act in a series that no one can even notice him/her. Sometimes a walk-on scene can be so short, and the star doesn't even have a line to say. Sometimes, a star can act many different roles in one series, becaue the walk-on scene is so short, and not easy to be noticed. However, even the famous star today has lots of the walk-on scenes, but before they are famous, you don't even know them. After they got famous, and you watch back their walk-on scenes, you will be like: "What?! he/she is in that series?! I don't even know!" Another interesting thing about the walk-on is that, the stars do get credit at the end. Like in the ending themesong, the stars' name will appear, but their character name is more likely to be "Soldier 1", "Customer 3", "Flag soldier 5", "Shop owner A", "Detective 2", etc. No real names ;-) Let's start with a very famous TVB series "The Legend of Condor Heroes 83", starring Felix Wong, back then Felix was already famous, even more famous than Francis Ng, Stephen Chow, can you imaging that? Believe me or not, Francis Ng plays four different characters in that series, at the beginning, he is just a door guard for a big family. Then, he plays a begger, that walk-on scene is little longer. The third character is a guy who stole some food after Michael Miu was poisoned, after he stole the food, he was beat by many people, and one of the people watching Francis got beat was Francis himself!
Stephen Chow also had four walk on scenes in this series, as "Soldier number 3", appeared four times, has four lines to say. The last walk on scene, he was dead, didn't even say one word... Tony Leung and Andy Lau, play bodyguards for Genghis Khan, who don't even have a line to say
Bobby Au Yeung, works with a guy as taking care of the house work. He has a few lines. Bobby also played as a begger in the series. Adam Cheung, plays as a fish man
Series: Duke of Mount Deer 84, starring Tony Leung and Andy Lau (note: Tony and Andy were still "runnung the dragon's wrap" in 83, and already getting the main lead in 84, that's really fast, no wonder why today, both of them are so popular) Sean Lau, plays a body guard, also had a "cross-over" scene as a girl. Michael Tao and Lawrenece Ng, so famous today, but, back then, can only do roles such as monks, murders, soldiers, etc.
Francis Ng and Bobby Au Yeung, still running the dragon's wrap in 84. Francis plays a guy in the religious group, Bobby plays as a monk.
